Just as I was about to start my last semester of grad school, I lost my dad to Covid-19. I spent much of 2022 supporting my family through estate matters and relocating. In 2023, I built my portfolio, attended workshops, and actively sought career opportunities.

I completed my MSIS and Graduate Certificate in Innovation for the Public Good.
— December 2021
I started working toward UNC’s Graduate Certificate in Innovation for the Public Good as part of the certificate program’s inaugural cohort. I took courses that gave me hands-on experience applying design thinking principles to complex problems like alleviating loneliness for older adults in a naturally occurring retirement community.
— Spring 2021
During the summer of my first year in my graduate program, I completed a week-long Jumpstart program through NC State University with hands-on workshops in programming, machine learning, and more.
— Summer 2020
During my time at SILS, I worked as a Research Assistant in the Interactive Information Systems Lab, where I worked on a Department of Defense-funded project focused on helping intelligence analysts search for information about work-related tasks. I collaborated with my lab team to design two remote user studies, conduct semi-structured interviews with participants via Zoom, and analyze think-aloud data. A paper based on our survey study was accepted for publication by the 2022 ACM SIGIR Conference on Human Information Interaction and Retrieval.
— October 2019 - December 2021: Graduate Research Assistant
After taking a class at UNC part-time while working, I went back to school full-time to focus exclusively on developing my UX skillset. I decided to pursue a Master of Science in Information Science with a focus on human-computer interaction through UNC’s School of Information and Library Science (SILS).
— Fall 2019: Started Grad School
As I continued to pursue my UX interests, I completed Nielsen Norman Group conference trainings in UX Basics, UX Workshops, and the Human Mind and Usability.
— 2018 Nielsen Norman Group Conference
I furthered my professional development by attending 2017 IA Summit focused on the topic of designing for humans. Elizabeth Churchill, who discussed the importance of user research in the design of connected devices, was among the many brilliant speakers. Looking back, I recognize that this talk inspired me to go back to school and gain research experience.

In a shift toward helping people within a tech startup environment, I moved back to NC and worked with the team at PrecisionLender. As a Lead Product Specialist, I trained and supported commercial lending clients in the successful use of PrecisionLender’s software as a service platform. I built on my UX interest and experience by working alongside our Product Designer to organize and conduct remote user testing sessions and facilitate an in-person user workshop.
— 2016 - 2019: Lead Product Specialist at PrecisionLender
Building on my previous experience in the legal field, I worked in a corporate governance support role for Deutsche Asset Management in Jacksonville, FL for three years. I supported and facilitated all aspects of board and committee meeting preparation and follow-up, including drafting, editing, and distributing Board and Committee meeting minutes, meeting agendas, memoranda, corporate resolutions, and various state and regulatory filings.
— Board Relations Analyst at Deutsche Bank
While working at New Potato, I began working on my graduate certificate in professional communication through East Carolina University. This strengthened my foundation in user-centered content and web design principles.
— Graduate Certificate in Professional Communication
My first “real job” was with New Potato Technologies, a creative design firm focused on building software and hardware for iOS. I started in an administrative capacity and later moved into a marketing role. I learned about and used human-centered design principles as I shared customer feedback with engineers and created product user guides. I managed New Potato’s web content and social media presence. This served as my introduction to the field of UX before I knew such a field existed.
— Marketing and Communications Manager at New Potato
I’m passionate about learning about people and helping people, which influenced my choice to major in psychology. I completed my BA in Psychology at UNC Wilmington, where I was an undergraduate research assistant in a lab focused on decision-making.
